Philly 250 Improvements
I have noticed recently that the city’s preparations for the semiquicentennial (America’s 250’s Birthday Party) are starting to come together!
Though not all the arrangements have come together yet, looking at you Logan Square renovation! It’s clear that the city is dedicating real resources to such an important occasion. Walking along East Market, you might notice new murals that add a bit of vibrancy to the corridor. The beautification on Market St. in Old City has been completed and the results are positive.
It’s nice having additional bike lanes anywhere in the city. It would be nicer if they were protected.
Other improvements I have seen around town are newly added benches that are dark blue and say have Philly 250 branding.
Chinatown has even received some much needed planters (though I have yet to see plants installed in them). Let’s hope that hey don’t turn into trash bins like so many have before!
At this point, the question is less “What is this going to look like?”, and more “How good is the execution going to be on the idea?”
Looking at this optimistically, I think it’s fair to say that I am optimistic that the execution will be done well!
